Focus On The Family Analyst Argues For Freedom To Change
June 28, 2005 -
Caleb Price, a research analyst with Focus on the Family recently published an
opinion piece in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Price published his comments
just days before Focus on the Family's "Love Won Out" conference in Seattle.
According to Price, liberals who protested the "Love Won Out," conference are
hypocritical in their calls for tolerance and diversity because they "attempt to
stifle all opposing views to their politically correct, pro-gay agenda. As a
result, another liberal mantra--the freedom to choose--is denied to those seeking
to walk out of unwanted homosexuality."
Price noted that even more troubling is the "vitriol unleashed" against those
who consider the notion that homosexuality is not an immutable characteristic.
These critics charge that "Love Won Out" conferences are "dangerous," and
"deplorable."
Price points out that even Kate Kendall with the National Center for Lesbian
Rights and lesbian author Camille Paglia argue that homosexuality is not fixed
or unchangeable. In fact, Paglia says it is not normal but an adaptation.
The author concludes by observing: "We are blessed with the freedom to make
choices about how we define ourselves while stewarding our sexuality as we see
fit. If people want to change their sexual identity, it is their right to
choose."
