February 5, 2007 - The APA Monitor On Psychology has announced the election of Alan E. Kazdin, Ph.D., to become the president of the APA in 2008.
Dr. Kazdin is the John M. Musser Professor of Psychology, Child Psychiatry, and the Institute of Social Policies at Yale University. He directs the Yale Parenting Center and Child Conduct Clinic. His web site, http://www.votekazdinapa.yale.edu/ includes additional information about his background and goals.
In a statement to Division 44 of the APA (Society for the Study of Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Issues), Dr. Kazdin noted:
I direct a clinic devoted to parenting and frequently am involved lesbian and gay parenting. This has sensitized me to ensuring that there are suitable services to address special needs and concerns and in a context that parents and families will experience as supportive and friendly to their concerns. There are more issues than parenting, but this has been a critical entry point into the issues, and I am keen to lobby for better and more services and the broader social sensitivities that such services require.
