Focus on the Family Offers Conferences on Homosexuality
Focus on the Family, an evangelical Christian ministry headed by psychologist and author Dr.
James Dobson, is offering a series of high-quality instructional seminars on homosexuality at
locations across the country. To date, attendance has ranged from 500-1100. The program aims especially
at educators, counselors, pastors and parents.
Focus on the Family is known for its superior level of educational professionalism, its
extensive offering of conference resources (including tapes, books, and information tables provided by
sister organizations), and a spirit of buoyant enthusiasm on the part of conference attendees
and volunteers, many of whom are among the approximately 5 million regular listeners to Dr.
James Dobson's radio broadcasts on issues of family, faith and culture.
Focus on the Family acknowledges that thousands of parents are facing the pain of learning about
a gay loved one, yet few know where to turn for answers. The conferences address questions such
as the following:
- understanding and preventing the condition in today's youth;
- how to help a friend or loved one who is struggling with the problem;
- understanding and answering the arguments of pro-gay Christian theology;
- learning strategies to approach one's school board about gay activism in the educational system.
Several of the speakers are noted ex-gay men and women who speak, candidly and with
obvious emotion, about their own struggles along the journey out of homosexuality. All of the talks
are supplemented by high-quality video presentations and video-projected notes.
A comprehensive instructional booklet is also given to all registrants which includes a
detailed outline of the day's speeches, along with a list of recommended reading materials.
