Matchmaking Service Sued For "Sexual Orientation Discrimination"
By Mike Hatfield
June 6, 2007 - Gay activists have sued eHarmony, an online dating service, for restricting its services to opposite-sex couples. The service was founded by Dr. Neil Clark Warren, a Christian psychologist who specializes in helping people locate life partners with compatible interests and values.
The lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. It asserts that the company is in violation of a California statute banning "discrimination based on sexual orientation."
Dr. Warren has explained that his matchmaking expertise is limited to heterosexual relationships, and therefore eHarmony -- a private business which promotes traditional marriage ---does not offer matchmaking for same-sex couples.
Concerned Women for America attorney J. Matt Barber has analyzed this case and pointed out the dangers and flaws in trying to force an online business to abide by California sexual-orientation statutes.
