PFOX Ousted From Virginia School Counselor's Conference
April 6, 2006 -
Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX) had registered as an exhibitor at
the Virginia Schools Counselors Association annual convention last week, but was
ejected by officials of the counselor's group.
PFOX had set up its booth and was prepared to hand out materials to provide an
alternative perspective to the view that homosexuality is fixed and
unchangeable. Association President Tammy Davis and past-President Carol
Kaffenberger asked for a meeting with PFOX Director Regina Griggs. They told her
that she and her group had to leave the convention.
After a brief discussion, they agreed that two of PFOX's brochures were not
offensive, but suggested that it wouldn't be worth PFOX's time to just hand out
two brochures. At one point, hotel staffers intervened and asked PFOX to leave;
police were also summoned.
One of the PFOX resources that the Virginia counselors considered objectionable
was Dr. Joseph and Linda Nicolosi's book, A Parents Guide to Preventing
Homosexuality, as well as the story of a transgendered person who warned against
sex change surgery.
