Dr. Throckmorton believes in the right of client self-determination when it comes to sexual orientation.
"Dr. Throckmorton's views on homosexuality are hardly controversial," observed Dr. Byrd. "He was apparently the victim of homosexual politics within Magellan, but cooler heads have finally prevailed within the organization. We commend Magellan for taking the high road and agreeing with the view that individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions should be free to explore their options with competent therapists. Dr. Throckmorton is simply offering these individuals a choice."
Magellan spokeswoman Erin Somers told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Magellan and Throckmorton agree with the view that a patient has "a right to explore a variety of therapies when he or she is grappling with sexual orientation issues."
"Ms. Somers is correct and this decision to invite Dr. Throckmorton to rejoin the advisory council is an encouraging sign," said Dr. Byrd.
Dr. Byrd is available for interviews at 818-789-4440.
