'Homosexuality: Current Trends In Research And Therapy' Conference Scheduled For November 7-9, 2003
Encino, California -- The National Association for
Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) will be
holding its annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah this
coming weekend, November 7-9, 2003.
The conference, "Homosexuality: Current Trends In Research
And Therapy," will feature workshops and speeches by experts
on psychotherapy, the law, cultural trends, sexual-identity
development, and gender identity disorders. NARTH co-founder
Dr. Joseph Nicolosi will conduct an all-day workshop for
therapists, "The Next Step in the Treatment of Ego-Dystonic
Homosexuality."
"We expect this to be one of the best conferences we've ever
had," said NARTH Publications Director Linda Nicolosi. "Our
speakers will cover a wide range of topics including recent
advances in treatment for unwanted same-sex attractions; the
future of psychology; a non-politicized understanding of the
term 'homophobia,' same-sex issues in public schools, and
healthy sexual-identity development for boys reared by
single mothers."
Speakers include: Lynne Marie Kohm, a professor of law at
Regent University School of Law; clinical psychologist David
Blakeslee who will discuss recent trends within psychology;
psychiatrist Sander J. Breiner, who will discuss the meaning
of homophobia; high school counselor Chris Kempling; mental
health expert Dr. E. Warren Throckmorton, who will speak on
public attitudes about homosexuality; and NARTH president
Dr. Joseph Nicolosi. A complete list of topics and speakers
is available on the NARTH web site: "Homosexuality: Current
Trends in Research and Therapy."
"This year's conference features some of the nation's
foremost experts on same-sex attractions," said Mrs.
Nicolosi. "We want everyone to know that when a person
experiences same-sex attractions, there are other options
besides self-identifying as gay. There are resources
available that will reduce homosexual feelings, deepen one's
gender identity, and encourage development of a person's
latent heterosexual potential."
The NARTH conference will be held at the Best Western, Salt
Lake Plaza Hotel, 122 West South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT
84101; 800.366.3684.
NARTH speakers will be available for press interviews. To
arrange an interview, please email NARTH at:
nationalarth@yahoo.com.
The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality was founded in 1992 and is composed of psychiatrists, psychoanalytically informed psychologists, certified social workers, and other behavioral scientists, as well as laymen in fields such as law, religion, and education.
