British Police Association Fears Rise In Crystal Meth Use
February 27, 2008 - The British Association of Police Officers (ACPO) has issued a report on the rise in the use of Crystal Meth in England. The group fears a surge in use within the next four years that could rival what has occurred in Australia.
According to the Daily Mail (Feb. 16, 2008): "Crystal Meth, dubbed 'poor man's cocaine,' is cheap to make and popular among gay clubbers for the immediate and prolonged high it gives when smoked."
The drug can turn users into "ravaged addicts" within months, leaving to serious health problems including paranoia, kidney failure, internal bleeding, promiscuous sexual behaviors and violence.
The ACPO fears Britain is on the verge of a crystal meth use explosion. The first meth factory was found in 2005 and police have discovered half a dozen a year since then.
